Nick Jr., Nickelodeon’s leading pre-school channel, announces the launch of the Help Dora Help initiative to bring exploration to life in nurseries and pre-schools across the UK. The campaign, supported by The Princes Foundation for Children and the Arts, consists of a free activity pack, giving nurseries and pre-schools educational activity resources, and the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to £20,000.
Today I interviewed the Wake Up World presenter Helena Dowling from Nick Jr. to find out more about this amazing concept created by a talented team at Nick Jr. HQ.
Helena said she "loved everything" about working at Nick Jr. and really valued the good scripts and the funny ideas generated by the team. "My favourite programme is Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom" she told me, "I love the voices and their characteristics".
Helena explained that the Help Dora Help initiative was a brand new concept which encourages imaginative play and creativity - this is available to all pre-schools and nurseries and is FREE. She said "we have had some great entries so far, people have sent some great photos".
The competition to win a grant of up to £20,000 is open until 22nd July 2011 - so there is still time to apply - what have you got to loose? so if you work in a pre-school or nursery, get your entry in NOW go to: www.nickjr.co.uk
Helena said she thought that Dora appealed to young children because of the amazing adventures she has and the fact that she is "well drawn". She also felt that the Spanish learning aspect was a real benefit, which I have to agree with! My children often come out with bits of Spanish and I have Dora to thank for that!
I asked Helena and another member of the Nick Jr. team, Henry if the dual appeal of the Nick Jr. programmes was very deliberate - I explained how I often find the humour in shows such as Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom very amusing. It seems that this is something the team have consciously set out to achieve in order to promote family watching and family engagement - something which I feel is very clever.
It was a real plesaure interviewing Helena and finding out more about this fantastic opportunity - it really is so easy to apply, so don't hesitate www.nickjr.co.uk NOW!
